My Exciting Morning June 16,2009

 Today when all of my friends walked in the classroom we all saw the Green Darner that we all were looking for yesterday we all were so happy to find it because we thought that the immature male had died. We really can’t wait to release it by the swamp today. This dragonfly is the biggest dragonfly in New Jersey. Green Darners have been seen preying on humming birds because that can eat things bigger then themselves.

Today when I got  to school my teacher ms.Lenahan told the class that she saved an injured bird. The birds name is a hearing gull  it is very healthy and the class can’t tell whether it’s female or male.If you can find a picture of the gull and explain what that special thing on its bill please comment.

Today our classroom had 5 monarch caterpillars that hatched from their own eggs! Soon everyone in the class will have their own monarch caterpillar. My friend Dariel has his own caterpillar and it has a black dot on its skin. Everyone in the class is curious and they want to know what it is? Some of my classmates think it might be another smaller insect. More of them think it might be some dirt. Did you know that the new monarch caterpillars eat their own egg after they hatched? Did I mention that the caterpillar eggs all hatched over night?  They also may have the same mother but she also laid the eggs on different leaves. So if one hatches it won’t eat the other egg. I am so excited because soon I will have my own caterpillar.

That day was the best day ever

     This morning I had gotten a new buddy, he was nice and his name was Amahr.For this morning my buddy was doing a bird project for his science grade. I was helping him with his project because both Mrs.Barnard and Ms.Lenahan thought it would be a good idea to work with our buddies. On the time that each class spent on their bird each group was almost finished their sheet that was given to them.
Amahr and I were studying the Blue Jay. The blue jay was very interesting to learn about because I learned that they can be found in my own backyard if there are oak trees back there. They can also be found in there nests in the oak tree part of the forests. Amahr and I also found a picture of a mother blue jay feeding her hatchlings. That’s how I spent my exciting morning.
